Music I listened in 2024
Musics I enjoyed in 2024. Check out the last year’s list.
Favorite tracks
CAIVA - Danger In Your Eyes (A Virgin Records)
It seems that I haven’t listen trance much these days. But this is definitely the one I really like. I was surprised that vocal is also from herself - you can find her live gig at Boiler room.
Alpharisc - Remain Seated (Mutual Rytm)
Fasten your seatbelt, otherwise you won’t be able to control yourself.
Stann Lumo - Astral Prologue (Ameniia)
Feel the sound of universe. Bandcamp link
Xanexx - Trapped in Double Axis (SCOPÁVIK)
(Click the image above) I like all the sounds that Xanexx made. He is a really great producer (and also a great DJ). You will like this set.
Alpharisc - Platform 9 (WARG)
Groovy acid techno. Alpharisc again.
AESPA - Armageddon (SM Entertainment)
YOU SHOULD SEE THE MUSIC VIDEO. Best MV I’ve ever seen in my life.
김뜻돌 (Meaningful Stone) - 속세탈출 feat. Swervy (EMA Recordings)
Reminds me Seo Tai ji. You need to check the music video; not only it’s awesome, it is almost twice longer than the above version on Soundcloud - never miss the last half. Swervy is my favorite Korean rapper.
G-Dragon - POWER (Galaxy Corporation)
(Click the image above) Finally he’s back!
New Jeans - How Sweet
(Click the image above) Produced by 250, who also made Ditto. That nostalgic sound. And New Jeans Never Dies!!!
Kalher - Kami (boisha)
This one is actually released in 2022, but I found it this year. Amazing sound.
Favorite Albums
SWEAT (by NO.LINK / The Architects Record)
Very dense and groovy techno tracks from Korean dj/producer NO.LINK. Check out The Architects Record too; there are many great albums.
War Is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength (by Dax J / Monnom Black)
Another dense groovy techno album. Favorites: Femme Fatale and Overclocking.
Body Whispers (by Chlär / Vault Records)
Masterpiece(s) from Chlär. Favorite: Exoskeleton.
Favorite DJ/Live sets
Max Cooper | 3D AV/Live set at MidWay, San Francisto (Nov 22)
It was my second time that I saw Max Cooper doing his thing at SF. It completely changed my life. It is very hard to describe, but you can find some videos on YouTube, which somehow explains the mechanism of 3D AV show. But you definitely need to see him live. He is a beast.
Caribou | Live at Fox Theater, Oakland (Nov 12)
I got free tickets for this one. It is a long story, but tl;dr is that Caribou (or Dan Snaith) got PhD in number theory (something on overconvergent Siegel modular symbols) under Kevin Buzzard, who I met in Berkeley recently (for math, but we talk about music more). As far as I know, he is the unique person who have PhD in mathematics and also Grammy nominated (I didn’t know the second fact before). His band reminds me Bonobo (he also played a band set at the same place before), but also different. The visuals were also great.
Chlär b2b Dax J | Stone Techno 2024, ARTE Concert
(Click the image above) 3hr B2B set from two of my favorites. 3hr!!! Honestly, I didn’t expect that they fit this well, since they have their own style.
Soft Crash | HATE Podcast 380
Pablo Bozzi & Phase Fatale. I just started to listen to some of these EBM / Dark disco sounds.
Civic Instruction (live by Hadone & UFO95) | Recorded Live at Fuse Brussels
Another great techno live B2B set.
aftermath | Live at Hyde FM (Feb 20)
And the last one is my own set played at Hyde FM, local radio located at SF. Honestly I think this is the best set I’ve ever recorded. Check out my SoundCloud if you enjoyed this set. I need more practice though…
At last, happy new year!
